Autumn Mulled Wine

By 25th May 2020 No Comments

What beautiful autumn nights we have been having, so still but somewhat chilly. So, this week I thought I would warm everyone up with some delicious Mulled Wine.

First originated in the 2nd century when the Roman armies heated wine to help defend their bodies from the cold.
The word Mulled comes from the ‘Mulled spices’ used to create the special flavour and aroma of Mulled wine.

Mull, to think about or deeply think over.

If you store leftovers in the fridge it can be heated and enjoyed a number of days later.

Autumn mulled wine

(serves 6)

750 ml red wine
4 plums, cut into quarters
2 oranges, skins removed and cut into segments
1 lemon, skin removed and cut into segments
2 tbsp honey
1 tsp cloves
2 cinnamon sticks

Combine all the ingredients in a saucepot and bring to the boil, simmer for 5 minutes and remove from heat.
Leave to sit for at least one hour before heating to drinking
